Must-Have Heels | Lola Shoetique

I had been debating on picking up some shoes from Lola Shoetique for months -- I finally asked a friend who had been sporting them on Instagram if they were as gorgeous as they look online, and she said yes.  I asked if I'd be able to walk in them for more than 2 minutes, and she said yes.  I went and placed an order and OH am I happy I did!
Lola Shoetique Heels
I picked up a classic pair of blush pumps and a fun, summery pair of yellow open-toe heels.  I've been searching for a bright yellow pair for ages, and these are perfect and couldn't be more affordable.

Plus, they have some of the best packaging I've seen, so that just makes me want to get some more shoes!  Will definitely be posting some outfits featuring these shoes.  I'm dying to get some of the Posh Night heels (caged, knee-high open toe).

The Best Faux Tan Year Round

The best products to get a fake tan
I love a good tan.  I've never been one to lay in tanning beds, but when I used to have the time to bask for hours in the sunshine, I was out every day.  I have naturally olive skin, so when I am self tanning I choose ones with more of an olive, brown, and even green undertone.  Many fake tans on the market now offer a more natural, olive tone.

I've experimented with all different types, shades, and brands over the years.  I have a couple of staples that I keep on hand throughout the year, and I have a few new favorites.
St. Tropez self tan mousse
I enjoy using a mousse because it's just so easy.  It blends right into the skin, and it's not messy when you are using a mitt.  I always order my mitt on Amazon and I use it for the various mousses that I own.

My #1 favorite is the St. Tropez mousse.  This is probably the most talked about self tan, and it deserves the fame.  This applies evenly and does not smell funky.  Unlike others, I'm able to apply this and go out while it processes.  It doesn't leave you with a green tint, so you can let it dry and go about your day while it does its magic.  They also make one for deeper skin tones, and that works beautifully as well -- I used it when I lived in the desert, and it kept me very, very dark.

Vita Liberata: Slightly newer to my tan collection, but does a fantstic job at bronzing.  This is a mousse texture identical to the St. Tropez.  The only difference that I find with Vita Liberata is it has a slightly more browny-olive undertone.  It is quite expensive, but I love it.
Bold Sunless Self Tan Mist
Bold Sunless Self Tan Mist: This is the newest to my favorites.  I love how easy it is to apply, and it has the most natural, brown color.  I get compliments on my skin tone every time I use this product.  A tip that I like is to spray some on your face before applying your makeup -- It will process throughout the day, and you'll be left with a natural glow when you remove your makeup!  I like to spray this all over after the shower and rub it in with my mitt.
James Read Liquid Tan
James Read Liquid Tan: I started using this while working in retail.  The line was new to the US, and I decided to take it home and experiment so that I had feedback for customers.  I ended up loving the liquid tan the best out of all of his formulas.  This has more of a green undertone, and it can be quite messy if not used properly.  I apply this directly to my self tanning mit and then apply it to my body.  This builds very quickly and leaves you with a deep tan.  If you are more fair, go for the "Light" shade.

And here's my adorable pup, Patches, who insisted on sunbathing while I was taking photos!  She's naturally bronzed.

Capone's Oven & Bar

Capone's Pizza in Houston
I've officially found the best pizza in Houston.  Nothing beats a classic, brick oven pizza.  Capone's feels like a speakeasy from the 1920's and plays great music (you won't see flappers, but the music is exactly what you'd hope to hear driving home in traffic).  Decorated with antique mirrors, bookshelves, plush chairs, and overhead lighting, the restaurant has a very old-fashioned, almost sexy feel to it.

We decided to pop in for lunch after hearing about their amazing lunch specials.  The list of appetizers was mouth-watering: Between the truffle mac n' cheese, garlic bread, and jalapeno bread, we were facing a serious dilemma.  We went with the garlic bread, and I wasn't disappointed.  The marinara sauce was slightly spicy, zesty, and the perfect temperature.

I couldn't not get the Pizza Combo, which includes half of any pizza and a half salad.  I opted for a pepperoni, meatball, and jalapeno pizza with a side Greek salad.  I was warned that it would be spicy, but I knew I could handle it.  And trust me, I handled the whole thing in about five minutes.  My boyfriend got a make-your-own pizza with sausage links and mushrooms.

The pizzas are divine.  I looked at the pizza and initially thought that I wouldn't be full, since I have the appetite of a 25 year-old male athlete, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The pizza looks thin, and it is thin, but it is dense enough to accommodate all of the toppings and fill you up.  The crust is perfect.  It's just thin enough to maintain a nice, brown crunch, but it's thick enough to not fall apart when you go to take a bite.

Let's just take a moment to talk about my favorite part of Capone's (other than the pizza); The bathrooms.  Looking like a lost nomad, I was pointed in the direction of a large bookshelf by the bar.  I pushed the secret passageway door to find the restroom, and I was way too excited about it.  I felt like I was entering Narnia or playing a game of hide-and-seek on my lunch break.  It was awesome.
Capone's Restaurant
Capone's is located in the heart of the Upper Kirby area right between Kirby and Greenbriar.  It's directly across from The Hobbit Cafe, and conveniently within walking distance from my office..I'll be back for sure, and I definitely want to check out the live music at night!

YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil Review

YSL Volupté Tint In Oil Undress Me
I love a good, natural, boring lip.  I don't gravitate towards vibrant, fun lipsticks.  I prefer a natural, pinky-nude lip and an occasional smokey eye.  So, when I heard about the new YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil, I thought we might be a good match.

YSL Volupte Tint In Oil
I bought shade #3 Undress Me.  The product feels like a moisturizing oil when applied to the lips, and it smells like those watermelon-flavored chap sticks that you had when you were a kid.  It feels like a thin yet rich lip balm, which I love.

The packaging is gorgeous, as YSL usually is.  What I don't love is the price ($32) and the pigmentation -- I hesitated originally to purchase this because I thought to myself "Do I really need another pinky-nude natural lip product"?  Sephora was sold out, so I took it as a sign.  But, when I was notified that the #3 shade was back in stock, I hopped on the bandwagon.
YSL Volupte Swatch
YSL Undress Me Volupte Tin In Oil
The pigmentation of Undress Me is almost non-existant.  Other reviews said that the product darkens on your lips over time, but I haven't noticed.  It looks like a clear gloss on my lips, and on the back of my hand it just looks like I licked my hand for a wet effect...sorry, but true.  It doesn't look bad, but I would expect it to at least look like something.  It does make the lips look juicy and plump, but so do a thousand other glosses.

Before I purchased, I thought that the Volupté Tint-In-Oil might be similar to my favorite Loreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Lip Stain.  This is my go-to lip color in shade "Rose On and On".  The YSL oil is much more moisturizing and soft, while the Loreal still has the slick feel but is slightly more tacky.  But, the Loreal trumps YSL in pigment, and it still makes my lips look juicy.

For the price, I'd get one of the YSL lipsticks or save it for something else.  I'll keep experimenting and will probably try wearing it over a darker liner.  But hey, it does look really pretty in your purse if that's something you fancy...

Lazy Sunday at the Beach

Galveston Island Beach
Top: Supreme Swimwear, Bottoms: H&M
Sundays are for being lazy in pajamas, no makeup, cuddling, and watching TV with a frizzy, messy bun.  I can usually be found in my bed or in the kitchen at any time on a Sunday, but yesterday we decided to move our lazy Sunday to the beach.
Jamaica Beach in Galveston Island

Dog on the Beach
To make this an overly cute day, we brought the pups along.  Seeing dogs run on the beach, swim in the ocean, and sunbathe in a state of exhaustion is possibly the most adorable thing ever.
Buc-ee's Galveston Texas
We had to make a stop at Buc-ee's on the way (if you've never been to Buc-ee's, you either aren't a true Texan or have never spent enough time here).
Hot guy and puppy on beach Gulf of Mexico in Jamaica Beach Galveston
We drove through Galveston Beach to Jamaica Beach where it was slightly less crowded and we were able to drive the car right up on the sand.  We unloaded our chairs, cooler, towels, and the dogs and ran to our open spot on the sand.
Green Ray Ban Aviators on Beach
We spent the day in the sun eating BBQ sandwiches, drinking Deep Eddy Lemonade, and laying in the ocean with the dogs.

Punk's Simple Southern Food

Who doesn't get a serious craving for southern food once in a while, or all the time?  It's comforting, classic, and just plain old delicious.
Punk's Simple Southern Restaurant
Punk's is conveniently located in Rice Village in Houston, right next to its sister restaurant, Coppa.  The line of restaurants on Morningside is filled with amazing food and looks beautiful at night.

Immediately upon walking in, Punk's makes you feel at home.  The ambiance is great, and the decor is southern but hip with lots of ceiling lamps and dim lighting.  The restaurant is crowded but should still have a table for you and your party, and you'll see people dressed in heels, jeans, or workout clothes.  A combination of great music from the 80s and some country is playing, and you know you aren't going to be let down!

Punk's Simple Southern Menu

Punk's Simple Southern Menu
We ordered the deviled eggs to start and ordered a few classics -- Shrimp and grits, fried chicken (half bird), mac n' cheese, and red beans and rice.  The deviled eggs were gone in about two seconds (there were 3 of us, so we each ate one in a couple bites).
Deviled Eggs
The shrimp and grits was perfect.  Not too salty, not bland, and the sauce coating the shrimp was mouth-watering.
Shrimp n Grits, Red beans and Rice, and Mac n' Cheese
The fried chicken was my favorite: battered to perfection, not greasy, and some damn good fried chicken.  The portion was great and came with three wings, a leg and a breast.  It also comes with a pickle, a biscuit (amazing) and mashed potatoes & gravy.
Houston Fried Chicken at Punk's Simple Southern
The Punk's sauce is the perfect dipping sauce for the fried chicken -- It is thin but powerful.  The sauce smells like a mixture of spicy salsa and hot sauce, and it tastes like your holy grail sauce.  I'd put it on anything...
Punk's Simple Southern Sauce
Red beans and rice was perfect as well.  I loved the spice that it had, and the sauce was just enough to not overpower the rice.  Portion size was great as well and comfortably fed three people.

Mac n' cheese was the only thing we weren't crazy about -- I don't think you can ever go wrong with noodles covered with cheese, but when I order some at a restaurant, I want to to have a little flavor and some kick.  It was slightly bland for our liking and for the $8.00 price, I want a little something extra.  Of course, we still ate it all and it didn't go to waste!

I'll definitely be back at Punk's, and next time I go, I won't leave without ordering one of their biscuits...They looked too good to pass up.

Check out Punk's menu here -- They also do brunch and happy hour!  I'll be back for those too.

How To Banish Acne Scars

I've found that the less I do to my skin the better.  Screw spending hundreds of dollars on expensive skincare -- Keep it simple!  I suffer from hormonal breakouts, and my skin gets clogged very easily.  My routine consists of a gentle cleanser (Cetaphil or Philosophy Purity Made Simple), my DIY Apple Cider Vinegar toner, and moisturizer (Cellex-C Enhancer).  I rely on masks and serums to give my skin an occasional boost.

Banish Acne Scars with Vitamin C and Pumpkin Mask

I've been using a few products from Banish Acne Scars which I can't recommend enough.  The founder, Daisy, originally created a YouTube channel to review products but found that nothing was working for her acne-prone skin.  Banish Acne Scars stood out to me because they focus on Glycolic Acids and AHA+ which are extremely beneficial to the skin when used properly.

Banish Acne Scars Roller Directions

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask: ...Amazing.  Smells exactly like pumpkin and promotes exfoliation of the skin while treating any active acne.  It does sting a little when you first apply it, but it dries into a thin, cooling texture that leaves you feeling refreshed.  If only they could send a slice of pumpkin pie with the mask...

Pumpkin Face Mask

Vitamin C Serum: Perfect serum for combination, acne-prone skin.  This feels thicker than your typical serum and leaves your skin feeling plump and hydrated.  Packed with Vitamins C, E, rosehip oil + Ferulic Acid.  Use this immediately after the Microskin Roller (if you have scarring).

Banish Acne Vitamin C Serum and Acne Roller

Vitamin C Beauty Elixir: I spray this in the morning and during the day if I need a pick-me-up.  This awakens your skin and helps heal any scarring or sensitivity with Vitamin C.

Banish Acne Scars Vitamin C Beauty Elixir

I'm using the Pen Stamp Kit since I still have some active acne -- You just stamp it onto the problem areas to spot treat.  For scarring, go for the Microskin Roller.  Just roll this backwards over your scars a few times.  This is their signature tool that really helps improve the look and feel of your skin.

All products can be purchased online at Banish Acne Scars.
