Go-To Green Smoothie

green smoothie recipe
Happy Monday!  Today I thought I'd share my favorite, go-to smoothie when I know I've been a bad girl with my greens.  I've been making an extra effort to get a proper dose of green vegetables in everyday, and I'm horrible with bringing them for lunch to work or ordering enough if I go out.

Work Experience vs. Travel

how to travel when you have a job

This concept is something that we've all thought about ourselves, had conversations with our family and friends, and probably grown frustrated with at one point or another.  Memes circulate the Internet showing young kids lined up for jobs that require years of experience, but they're only 12 years old.  We're taught from a young age that the standard, American dream is going to school, going to college, interning/working in between, and landing that dream job with a corner office.

There's no doubt that society has changed tremendously, and there are so many more outlets now to take a more creative path, and us "millennials" are less likely to crave the 9-5 life, the corner office,a the need to report to the same place at the exact same time every day.

I've been wanting to touch on this topic for a while, and I finally had a conversation that triggered all the right words.  If you've been keeping up with my posts, you saw that I mentioned my 2017 goal is to go to Europe.  I've never been, and I was talking with friends about taking my Birthright trip to Israel this summer.  The ideas started circulating, and I thought the perfect plan would be to fly to Israel for the trip and then stay on that side of the pond and head to Europe.

I've always struggled slightly with the idea of going to Europe.  How am I going to go when I have a job?  How am I going to take the time off?  What will my boss say?  How am I going to afford it.  I would make excuse after excuse, but...they're valid excuses, aren't they?

I worried with taking the time off, since with a 9-5 we're only guaranteed so many days, so many hours.  I worried about "getting in trouble" or potentially losing my job, which would then cut any saving I planned on doing.  I finally came to the realization that it's now or never, and I told my sister that she had to come to Israel with me!  I've been trying to save, and saving has to be the BIGGEST excuse we all make.  I spend so much money on trivial things -- If I could even cut that in half, I'd be golden.

My sister, Sydney, is a sophomore in college (Bear Down).  She's always been super involved in school: athlete in high school, active in clubs, and is now very involved in a sorority.  She has a handful of things to put on her resume, but as always, we're drilled and semi "brainwashed" to always believe that's not good enough.  She needs more experience, more internships, more connections to compete with everyone else in the playing field.
how to get internship experience with travel
I wanted to share our conversation because it truly makes me a little frustrated, sad, and fed up.  We're rarely told how important once in a lifetime experiences are, and we're always forced to think about our future, our career, and the next job we're going to land.  Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in work experience and getting as much on your resume as you can.  BUT, I don't believe that we should pass up a huge experience if were blessed enough to be able to have them.

I finally told myself that now was my time to go.  Yes, I'd have to take my time off, but I'd save the days to do so.  I'd save the money.  And at the end of the day, we only get one life.  If you're fortunate enough to be able to travel, be thankful.  Go for it.  Opportunities knock constantly, but you have to open the doors yourself and let them in.

The pressure on young adults and even young kids is real these days.  Yes, supporting yourself and surviving in the real world is imperative.  But living your life to the fullest is JUST as important.  Don't forget that!

I'd love for you all to share your experiences with work vs. travel dissonance -- Let me know thoughts you've had, decisions you've made, and why you chose to pursue one path over another.

Fall Sweaters

Blush Sweater
Fall is here, and I'm already browsing the internet for new sweaters.  I've always had a boot obsession, but my brain now likes to focus on the perfect, soft, Fall-appropriate sweater.  There's something so satisfying about finding an amazing, cozy sweater, and I'm always gravitating towards neutral colors.  And the occasional olive green...that's a neutral in my book.

I recently stopped in H&M the other day and was so impressed by their sweaters!  I didn't have time to browse and try them on, so I went online and rounded up a few of my favorite picks to share.  Most of these are in the $20-$30 range, with the exception of a gorgeous cashmere sweater thrown into the mix.  I did pick up the camel colored turtle neck and LOVE it!

These are all colors that I opt for in the Fall, and it looks like blush tones, beige, and tans are in everyone's shopping cart as well!

Also, are you all excited to see the H&M x Kenzo collab?  They've seriously stepped up their game lately, and I'm still so glad that we have an H&M at the Galleria here in Houston (And why am I just now finding out that we have one in City Centre as well?!).  Who do you all think H&M will work with next?!

Let me know your favorite place to shop for sweaters this fall, and leave your guesses for the next H&M collab in the comments as well!

September 2016

fashion blogger Houston Texas
Boot season has arrived!  I can't even explain the rush of excitement that I felt while on a walk the other morning.  Walking outside and feeling the crisp air when expecting humidity is one of the best feelings you can have here in Houston!

I know, I know.  We all say, "I can't believe X month is over".  But I'm gonna say it again, because I seriously can't believe September has passed and October is here.

September's was a whirlwind, especially since I've been busy with a new part-time gig (Go Rockets)!  Who else is excited that NFL and NBA season are picking up too?!

I plan to start doing monthly recaps showing some fun things I did, cool things I purchased, songs I loved, the whole shebang.  Here's a look into the past four weeks!

Baltimore Maryland
Trey and I flew to Baltimore for a quick weekend out East and had an amazing time.  Fingers crossed I get to make a trip back before it gets too cold...and eat another cheesesteak!  You can read all about the trip here.
Beyonce Formation World Tour
Oh Bey.  I finally got the opportunity to see BeyoncĂ© in the flesh, and I am so thankful I did!  The Formation Tour is more of an experience than a concert.  The costumes, videography, graphics, dancers, lighting...everything is personalized to the tour and grabs your attention the whole time.  We had all the feels and danced the entire time.  If you have the chance to go, GO.

My aunt came in town to celebrate my Grandpa's 85th birthday -- Had to throw this in here, because I love my family!

Black and Snakeskin mule shoes
I ordered these Calvin Klein mules from Nordstrom and love them!  Plus, I found them on another retailer's website for around $55 and Nordstrom price matched!  If you order these, I recommend a size up, especially if you suffer from little sausage toes like myself.
puma suede sneaker
I also had to pick up these suede Puma sneakers...because pale pink.  They are so comfortable and one of my favorite pairs of sneakers right now.  They come in tons of other colors too (I love the mint green)!
brandy melville sweaters
Big news of September is that I found out Houston has a Brandy Melville!  I can't lie, I felt a little too old to be shopping there, but I'm a huge fan of their sweaters.  The bralette squeezes me in a little too tight, but Brandy Melville sweaters get an A+ from me.  The Houston location is on Shepherd before Allen Parkway -- Check it out!  No more paying for shipping!

I've been jamming Alina Baraz, Stwo, Majid Jordan, and Usher's new album (Hard II Love).

Let me know your favorite part of September and any exciting Fall plans you have!
